West Coast Winter

I was born and raised in Southern California. So, I can't even fathom the conditions many of you are grappling with right now. I scan my blog list and see quite a few Snow Day posts and everything that encompasses. Late night talk show hosts have made a big point of what weather wusses we are out here. And it is very true. We are on "storm watch" for this weekend, bracing for some rain basically. I took a long walk on the beach this morning (We have a 3:2 ratio of teens to adults in our household, so a long cleansing walk is "a good thing" - just saying ) I watched the few surfers (1-3 feet is weak) have the "ultimate morning meeting" as I call it. I wish you all an Amazing spring to make up for the severe winter you've endured. Have a Great Weekend! (I plan to enjoy a big chunk of House of Cards)

So we waited all weekend and not one drop of water fell. Then almost out of the blue on Monday morning this happened ....
Hail in Surf City USA!

Tuesday - back to "normal"

  1. Mary, you were definitely out there at the right time to capture that great sky. I always chuckle when the TV meteorologists talk about" storm watch" for us -- often translating to "sprinkles" !!
Enjoy your week-end. I thought I might make some stew or soup to make it seem more like winter as the showers roll in:))

    1. That sounds good Christie! Funny enough, my kids get positively giddy when we get rain, since we don't see it often.

  2. Your photos are great - I love the light quality. Though I have to admit... there's something ironic about the fact that our northeast winter landscape right now is devoid of color (which I am craving desperately), and you, living where there is blue ocean, green trees, colorful flowers, and more, instead are posting photos in the neutral tones of our winter landscape. ;)

Thanks for sharing some lovely views of the ocean!

    1. Thanks! Phyl, I made a very conscious decision not to post the obligatory sunny California beach scene as I thought it would completely annoy everyone struggling with severe weather. But today we're back to our typical sunny selves; bright, cloudless mid 60's. (SoCal spoiled)

  3. I love your post Mary. It offers a slither of personal which is always interesting. I read an art bloggers post last week and he talked of 13 snow days and how they would have to teach until a later date and still owe some. Does that mean they have to make up the days? On the rare occasion our schools are closed because of weather, we don't have to repay. I simply feel envious it's not my school.
